
The Medlock family grow organic, gluten-free oats on their 260 acre Mains of Haulkerton farm near Laurencekirk in Aberdeenshire. All milling. kiln drying, processing and packing is carried out on the farm to produce a range of certified organic and gluten-free oats and oatmeals. Although oats themselves do not contain gluten, they must meet stringent standards in order to be called “gluten-free” under food labelling regulations. Contamination from barley and wheat in storage silos, machinery or even nearby farms can cause producers to fail to meet the standard. The Medlocks 'Honest Oats' are thought to be the only producer of certified organic and gluten-free oats in Scotland.
